Empty Graves

While retrieving a ship’s engine from the bottom of Lake Zurich, a police diver comes upon a corpse – the body of a man weighted down with dumbbells. His death clearly wasn’t an accident. Since the man was not reported missing in Switzerland, district attorney Regina Flint and police detective Bruno Cavalli turn to Interpol for help – and soon it’s clear: the description corresponds to an Argentinian journalist – Ramón Penasso – who went missing six months ago without a trace.

But what brought Penasso to Zurich in the first place? And what was he working on when he died? When the investigation stalls, Regina Flint flies to Buenos Aires. There she discovers that not everyone in government circles is interested in clearing up the case. When the Argentinian secret service gets involved, she suspects that there's more to Penasso’s death than she and Cavalli initially assumed. Back in Zurich, Bruno Cavalli is on the trail of the killer. Catching him requires exceeding the bounds of what’s legally permitted – but that doesn't stop Cavalli, because he has nothing left to lose.

“Empty Graves” (German: Leere Gräber) is the sixth case solved by Regina Flint and Bruno Cavalli.

“An intelligent plot and strong, multilayered figures.”
