Suspicion

Camp Casablanca in Kosovo, during the night of October 3rd: even though it’s forbidden, Swisscoy soldier Fabian Zaugg arranges a meeting in his accommodation container with Besarta Sinani, a local woman who works as a bartender at the camp. Later, the quiet is broken by the sound of suppressed crying, and a few days later, Zaugg is arrested and charged with having raped Sinani. Zaugg denies the rape, but the evidence tells a different story. In Switzerland, Fabian Zaugg’s sister asks the lawyer Pal Palushi to take on Zaugg’s defense in the hope that Palushi, himself Kosovan by birth, can find out what really happened. However, Zaugg refuses to open up to Palushi, and the latter sees no option but to ask ex-police officer Jasmin Meyer to travel to Kosovo and investigate. There, it's quickly clear to Meyer that there’s much more to the accusations than meets the eye.

Jasmin Meyer and Pal Palushi team up for the first time in “Suspicion” (German: Tatverdacht), the first case in a new series by Petra Ivanov.

“Far more than simple crime fiction.”
